TALENTED PHOTOGRAPHER FOCUSES ON KIELDER SHOW

When gifted landscape photographer Jane Ellis is in need of inspiration she doesn't have to look too far.

Living on a 250 acre farm set in rolling countryside in the Vale of Whittingham, near Thrunton, ravishing scenery is quite literally on her doorstep. But that hasn't stopped the farmer's wife and mother of two from spreading her wings and hitting the road to capture more of Northumberland's beauty on film.

Now the Forestry Commission has unveiled a stunning new exhibition of her work at 18th century Kielder Castle, itself set in the dramatic landscape of Kielder Water and Forest Park. Over 20 pictures are being shown throughout April, ranging from woodland vistas to wild seascapes and moody moorland, all shot with a keen eye and using a traditional film camera.

Jane said:

"When I'm on my travels I never quite know what kind of picture I'm going to capture and like many photographers I seem to spend endless hours waiting for the light, which is so important. But the results can be very satisfying and my husband is both my biggest supporter and sternest critic. I've called my Kielder show `Seeking Tranquillity', using water as a key theme. The setting could hardly be more appropriate"

Born in Gosforth, Jane took up photography as a child and 14 years ago set up her own business selling her photographs on handmade greeting cards. She now produces an astonishing 12,000 cards each year, while also selling her work to private buyers.

Margaret Hardon, from the Forestry Commission, added:

"Jane's atmospheric images provide a wonderful start to an exciting series of exhibitions in the Duchess Gallery at Kielder Castle this year, all showcasing the work of local artists."

The exhibition is free and opens daily from 10am to 5pm. For more information contact 01434 250209. Kielder Castle and the Duke's Pantry tearoom are now open for the new season. For more information on great days out in Britain's biggest wood log on to www.forestry.gov.uk/NorthEastEngland
