As part of a legacy initiative in connection with Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, Forestry Commission Scotland is hosting an event packed with fun and plenty of ‘old school’ play for communities across Glasgow.

Taking place at Todds Well woods, near Easterhouse, on Saturday 4 August from 10.30am - 3.30pm, families are welcome to drop-in at any point throughout the day.

A play area is being set up at the entrance of the woodlands where ‘old school’ games will be played, from skipping to hop scotch, along with games from other parts of the commonwealth. The organisers are keen to attract locals and people from commonwealth countries now living in Glasgow, giving everyone the chance to join in giant board games or simply to spend some time in the fresh air.

The event is being hosted to encourage more people from all ages and backgrounds to venture outside and enjoy a day in the woodlands.

Romena Huq from Forestry Commission Scotland, says:

“It’ll be a fun day out for families to come together and connect outside in the woodlands.  We’ll be playing ‘old school’ games for a laugh and to reminisce about what mums and dads used to enjoy when they were young.

“We’re keen for more people to enjoy the woodlands and hope that by hosting an event like this, people will think of coming back for picnics, walks and bike rides to enjoy the fresh air.  What’s more, heading out to the woodlands for the day or an hour or two is a free thing to do!”

Woodlands in this area of Glasgow are part of a legacy initiative to encourage more people to enjoy the woodlands on their doorstep.

Event details: 10.30am - 3.30pm, Todds Well woods, near Provan Hall House, Auchinlea Park, Auchinlea Road, Easterhouse, G34 9NQ.
