Families flocked to Hicks Lodge and enjoyed activities featuring wheels, wings, hooves and paws at their Open Day on Sunday 21st July.
The Hicks Lodge Open Day set out to demonstrate that this National Forest Cycle Centre has more to offer than just bikes. So as well as Dr Bike with his unusual cycles, visitors enjoyed meeting the ‘Professor’ barn owl, watching the fun dog show, taking part in the Butterfly Conservation nature walk, riding in the Ride 4 Life horse trek and checking out dog sledding from the National Forest Mushing Team.
There were also some of the Hicks Lodge volunteers on hand so that people could find out what they do and how local people can get involved.
Sallie Corfield of the Forestry Commission said:
“It was fantastic to see so many people at the event. The site is frequently used for lots of different activities, so it was great to bring these all together on one day to showcase everything on offer. People probably know us for the delicious cake in our café or as a place to hire a bike for a ride on our trails, but there’s much more to Hicks Lodge than that!”
