Morvern Community Woodlands (Company) (MCW) has applied to the National Forest Land Scheme (NFLS) to purchase 8 hectares of woodland at Achnaha, on the Morvern peninsula.
Administered by Forestry Commission Scotland, the NFLS gives communities the opportunity to bid to buy or lease national forest land on the basis that it provides increased public benefits.
MCW have applied to purchase this woodland which has been managed by them in conjunction with Forestry Commission Scotland, through a management agreement, since 2004. The purchase of the woodland would enable the community to continue managing the land and seek funding for which it is not currently eligible. The company has a long-term vision and operational objectives for the woodland. These include extending access networks, a wildlife hide and pond, art in the woods and an external play area.
A 28-day open consultation period is required by the scheme and public comments on any aspect of the proposal are welcome.
Details of the application can be viewed on line at www.forestry.gov.uk/nfls and all comments on the proposals detailed in the application must be submitted by Tuesday 29 July.
Responses and comments should be addressed to Malcolm Wield, Forestry Commission Scotland, Highland Conservancy, 'Woodlands', Fodderty Way, Dingwall, Ross-shire, IV15 9XB or to firstname.lastname@example.org
Forestry Commission Scotland has a policy of making these comments publicly available, unless requested to keep comments confidential.
