It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Forestry Commission’s Haldon Forest Park near Exeter.
Dartmoor Christmas Tree farm is once again selling beautiful real Christmas trees at Haldon, as well as a range of Christmas decorations and their award winning wreaths.
Why not take the little ones for a festive stroll and follow the Gruffalo’s Child trail? With fun activity panels along the way it will keep the children amused and active. They can also visit our life size Gruffalo sculpture when they’re done. Activity packs are available from the Rangers’ office – these are not essential but do enhance the enjoyment of the trail.
Children can also bring their letter for Santa with them to Haldon as he has left a special post box near to the café.
Why not bring your bike and go for a cycle on one of our exciting bike trails? There is one for every level of ability. You can also enhance your skills on the cycle skills area and pump loop. If you don’t have a bike, Forest Cycle Hire is on hand over the Christmas period for bike hire – check their website for Christmas opening times.
The Ridge Café is open every day except Christmas day, serving up a range of delicious hot and cold food and warming drinks. They are also running a Santa’s Den Building event on Saturday 20 December from 10am-1pm.
Children will build a den for Santa, who will then visit with a gift for each child. With indoor and outdoor craft brought to you by The Scrapstore and the A Touch of the Wild team, followed by lunch on the decking, this is quite a magical event. Contact The Ridge Café on 01392 832531 for more information and tickets.
Another event to get you well and truly in the Christmas spirit is our Christmas carols evening on Thursday 11 December, 7.15-8.45pm. Take a break from Christmas shopping and join a local band and choir around the fire to sing Christmas carols beneath the trees of Haldon Forest.
Parking, warm fruit punch and a mince pie are included in the price of £5 per person, with all proceeds going to charity. Booking is essential for this event - call 0300 067 4826.
If you are looking for an alternative gift for someone special this Christmas, why not consider giving them a Discovery Pass? These cost £30 and give free parking at Haldon for a year as well as a range of other benefits. Available on line or from the Rangers’ office.
