It’s all getting a bit festive in the forest at the Forestry Commission’s Haldon Forest Park near Exeter.
From 26 November Dartmoor Christmas Tree Farm will be selling their award winning trees from Haldon as well as a range of gorgeous decorations.
And we have an exciting new Stick Man activity trail to amuse the younger members of the family. With fun activity panels along the way it will keep children amused whilst being active in nature. Activity packs are available from the Rangers’ office costing £3 each.
Children can also bring their letter for Santa with them to Haldon as he has left a special post box near to the café.
Why not bring your bike and go for a cycle on one of our exciting bike trails? There is one for every level of ability. You can also enhance your skills on the cycle skills area and pump loop. If you don’t have a bike, Forest Cycle Hire is on hand over the Christmas period for bike hire. They will be open Wednesday to Sunday during the winter season. They are also holding a Christmas bike sale with quality ex-hire mountain bikes with front suspension and disc brakes available to buy as great Christmas presents. There are men’s, ladies and children’s bikes available as well as a range of new cycling gloves and helmets. Or for a pressie with a difference, why not buy someone you love a mountain biking voucher?
The Ridge Café is open every day except Christmas day, serving up a range of delicious hot and cold food and warming drinks.
Another event to get you well and truly in the Christmas spirit is our Christmas carols evening on Tuesday 8 December, 7.15-8.45pm. Take a break from Christmas shopping and join a local band and choir around the fire to sing Christmas carols beneath the trees of Haldon Forest. Parking, warm fruit punch and a mince pie are included in the price of £5 per person, with all proceeds going to charity. Booking is essential for this event - call 0300 067 5826.
Our friends from A Touch of the Wild are also running a Christmas family adventure club on Saturday 12 December from 1pm-3pm. Join them deep in the woods for a festive celebration at their magical Christmas camp. There will be a Christmas craft activity to make a gift to take home followed by Christmas storytelling and marshmallows round the campfire, followed by hot dog sausages and refreshments for everyone. The event will end with a visit from Santa who will have a special woodland themed gift for every child.
Tickets: £10 child over 18 months, £7.50 adult. For more details, to book tickets and for terms and conditions visit- www.atouchofthewild.co.uk
