Many families across the north east enjoy a special Christmas tradition – of going to Tyrebagger wood to buy their festive tree.
It’s been a seasonal treat for different generations – but now Forestry Commission Scotland is asking for help to pinpoint the year when it all started.
Emily Holmes, for the Commission’s team in Aberdeenshire, said:
“Choosing that special tree at the Tyrebagger Christmas tree sales centre is a tradition that has been going on for many years and we often hear children being told that mum and dad used to do the same thing when they were kids.
“Many of our staff have worked for the Commission for decades and have many happy memories of the sales through the years - but no one can pinpoint when the Christmas tree sales got started.
“That’s why this year we’re asking people to send in any old photos and stories of the Christmas tree sales centre in years gone.
“As well as helping us to build up a better picture of the centre over the years, we will use any pictures and stories in a special display at Tyrebagger, that will perhaps jog a few memories and encourage more families to adopt the ‘Tyrebagger tradition’.”
If anyone has any photos or memories of the Tyrebagger Christmas tree sales, please get in touch with the Commission’s Moray & Aberdeenshire team at moray&Aberdeenshire@forestry.gsi.gov.uk
The Tyrebagger Christmas tree sales centre will be open daily (9-5.00) as from Thursday 28th Nov – Sunday 22 December.
