Santa and his reindeer will be making themselves a home away from home at the Garwnant visitor centre this Christmas.
Visitors to Santaland will get a warm welcome from Father Christmas himself – and a special gift too! Children can meet his reindeer, write their letters to Santa and go for a festive fairground ride, but there’ll also be plenty of attractions for grown-ups.
“We hope that people, young and old, will start off the merry month of December with a visit to Garwnant,” says Forestry Commission Wales ranger Pauline Gallagher.
“Enjoy the fun of the fair, relax over mulled wine and mince pies, and take home a real Christmas tree!”
If that isn’t enough to get you feeling festive, there’ll be Christmas Craft Fayres too – a great chance to pick up the ideal Christmas present.
“You’ll find unique handmade gifts in our Dickensian style craft shops,” promises Craft Fayre organiser Charlotte Baston.
There’ll also be a special Christmas activity trail for children. Pick up an activity sheet from the visitor centre, then return your completed sheet to be entered into a prize draw. The winning entry will receive a free family meal for four in the on-site restaurant run by local company Just Perfect Catering, and the child will receive a surprise present.
“We’ve got a great range of Christmas activities at Garwnant this year,” said Sam Detheridge, manager of the Forestry Commission Wales visitor centre, “but there are always plenty of other things to do here too. Kids can go wild in the adventure play area, families can enjoy a quiet stroll on our all ability trail, or you can just hide from the cold with a hot chocolate in our restaurant.”
The Garwnant visitor centre is just off the A470, five miles north of Merthyr Tydfil. Santaland events will run from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 December and there will be a cost of £5 per person (which includes a gift from Santa for every child) and a further charge for fairground rides.
The Christmas Craft Fayre also runs from 11am until 4pm on December 1, 2, 8 and 9, and entry is free. Christmas trees will be on sale from December 2 to 24.
