Marvellous mutts seek glory in Guisborough Forest
Canny canines are being invited to step up to the plate and go for glory in Guisborough Forest and Walkway on Sunday (5 July).
The Forestry Commission and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council are looking for hounds with star quality, or just a good trick in their repertoire, to take part in the 3rd Scruffs Dog Show in the 360-hectare (900-acre) North York Moors beauty spot.
Over the previous two years the event has been a massive success and once again pets and owners will be vying for top spot in categories like best party trick, prettiest paws and even dog with the waggiest tail.
There’ll also be chance to put pets through an agility course, take part in a pooches' treasure trail and browse doggy-themed stalls - all aimed at raising cash for canine charities.
Ranger Cath Brason said:
“We’re laying out the red carpet for dogs of all shapes and sizes, giving them a chance to claim a moment in the limelight and make their owners very proud. It’s a terrifc fun event for all the family, perfect to get faces beaming and tails wagging.”
The event is being run as part of the Forestry Commission’s Walkies in the Woods health push, aimed at keeping both dogs and owners in good health. Local charities taking part include Whitby Dog Rescue, Blue Cross, Greyhounds Galore and Hearing Dogs for Death.
The cost is just £1 per class entry and the event is based at the Guisborough Forest and Walkway Visitor Centre at Pinchinthorpe from 11am and 3pm. For more details call on 01287 631132.
