Children in Cheshire are being offered the chance to become a junior wildlife ranger at the Forestry Commission’s Delamere Forest Visitor Centre, near Northwich, this February half term.
On the 17th, 18th and 19th of February, families can join the Forestry Commission team to find out more about ‘Winter Wildlife’.
Experts will be on hand to tell people about the secret lives of our feathered friends and show families how to make their very own bird feeder using natural materials. Children will be able to take their bird feeders home to use in their own garden and look out for their favourite species.
Starting from the Delamere Forest Visitor Centre, the ‘Winter Wildlife’ events will also offer wildlife lovers the chance to spot all sorts of woodland birds and other creatures around Cheshire’s largest forest, including the greater spotted woodpecker and the green woodpecker.
The ‘Winter Wildlife’ events costs only £3 per child and are designed for families with children aged three and over. There will be four sessions each day, starting at 11am, 12pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
Catherine Welsby, Education Officer for the Forestry Commission at Delamere Forest, says:
“Our February half term events provide a great opportunity for people to get out and about in their local forest and look for the first signs of spring.
“Wildlife events are always really popular at Delamere, so we expect to see a big turn out during the half term holidays. Our team of experts will also be on hand to make sure everyone has a fun time.”
Advance booking is essential for the ‘Winter Wildlife’ events by calling Delamere Forest Visitor Centre on 01606 889792. Visitors should meet at the education area gate, adjacent to the Delamere Forest Visitor Centre.
Delamere Forest Park is a great place for families to let off steam, escape the crowds and find peace in the heart of the forest. A range of waymarked walks, cycling routes, bike hire, orienteering course, picnic sites and the Go Ape High Wire adventure experience are also on offer.
