FURTHER APPOINTMENTS TO BOARD OF FORESTRY COMMISSIONERS
The Queen has approved the appointment of Ian Forshaw as Executive Commissioner of the Forestry Commission from 15 December 2005.
Biographical Notes
Ian Forshaw graduated from Aberdeen University and joined the Forestry Commission in 1978 as a trainee forester in the far north of Scotland.
After various posts in Scotland, including appointment as a Forest District Manager in 1990, he became the Forest Management and Environment Officer, based in Dumfries, in 1994. He returned to Inverness in 1997 as Harvesting and Marketing Officer and was promoted to Director, Forest Operations, Forest Enterprise Great Britain, in 1999.
He was appointed Head of Policy and Business Development for Forestry Commission Scotland in 2003, a post he held for two years before being appointed Director of Forestry Commission Wales.
The Queen also approved the re-appointment of Martin Gale CBE as a non-executive Commissioner for Scotland for a second three year term until 31 March 2009, and Gareth Wardell as a non-executive Commissioner for Wales until 17 January 2007

The Forestry Commissioners are appointed by Royal Warrant under the Forestry Act 1967. Their functions include promoting the interests of forestry, regulating tree felling, grant-aiding, undertaking research and managing the public forest in England, Wales and Scotland.
