Data management system
The need for a systemLand restoration is complex, involving many organisations and individuals who acquire data and/or make decisions based on previously acquired data. For the restoration process to work effectively and efficiently all information pertaining to a site must be available in an accurate, comprehensive, consistent, and transparent form. Therefore, Forest Research (the research agency of the Forestry Commission) and the Forestry Commission are developing a computer based system in order to raise reclamation standards by narrowing the gap between site potential, restoration specification, sustainability and woodland design. The system under developmentThis system will provide: - A centralised means of sharing, storing, retrieving and displaying site records
- A database system to support a transparent and consistent approach to site prioritisation and site evaluation
- An ability to incorporate existing records and link with existing data sources
- An ability to spatially relate sample and site characteristics, and interpolate information between spatially related positions
- An ability to audit restoration practice, aftercare, monitoring, and performance, and to monitor sustainability, woodland grant etc.
For further information on this systemPlease contact the Forest Research Land Regeneration and Urban Greening Group: landrec@forestry.gsi.gov.uk.
