Forestry Commission Scotland’s tourism strategy for Galloway Forest Park aims to establish the forest as an outstanding visitor destination and to attract 1.6 million visitors each year by the end of 2015.
The largest forest park in Scotland
The forest park is the Commission's largest in Scotland, covering an area equivalent to 100,000 football pitches. It is famous for being an uncrowded and peaceful place, rich in wildlife and stunning scenery, with 120 km of walking trails, 200 km of cycling routes, and hundreds of miles of open access for horseriders, all supported by three visitor centres.
A further aim is to see the tourism and business sectors jointly promote and enhance these assets, whilst building in links with health and well-being.
The strategy has been produced in partnership with Scottish Enterprise Dumfries & Galloway and VisitScotland Dumfries and Galloway.
