Forest health day - Dumfries & Galloway

7 October 2011

What was the event?

Seminar where Forest Research scientists provided an update on the latest information about tree insect pests and diseases. Forest Research scientists will deliver the main presentations.  Representatives from Forestry Commission Plant Health and Forestry Commission Scotland also attended.

In the morning, the sessions covered the basics of what to look for as indicators of when things may be going wrong as a result of pests or disease, how to monitor these, how to report them and to whom, and then opportunity to cover any specific concerns.  The sessions included an overview of current threats from both pests and disease and those that may be just over the horizon.  The afternoon site visit was to a nearby forest to discuss specific issues including bio security procedures.
