The impacts of nitrogen deposition on microbial communities in forest soils

21 January 2011

What was the event?

This presentation explained the impact of environmental pollution by nitrogen deposition on carbon and nitrogen cycling in forest soils; in particular by analysing the activities and community composition of the microbes involved.

This was done using a forest site which is subject to high levels of pollution, resulting in a nitrogen gradient along a transect and which provides a unique site to investigate the community dynamics and activities of a number of soil microbes in response to changes in ammonium and nitrate concentration.

Research seminar was by Emma Thorpe, Essex University.

Who was the event suitable for?

Scientists, practioners, students, policy makers and representatives from industry, academic and forestry organisations.
