New Research Liaison Officer for England

Engaging Forest Research with its user communities in England

News from Forest Research: July 2009

Suzanne Martin

Dr Suzanne Martin joined Forest Research this July as Research Liaison Officer (RLO) for England. She joins Steve Penny (RLO for Scotland) and Chris Jones (RLO for Wales) in providing dedicated links between Forest Research, the Forestry Commission and the many private and public forestry and land-use stakeholders throughout the country.

Suzanne will proactively engage Forest Research with its user communities in England to enhance the awareness of FR’s services and use of research findings, and help to improve the effectiveness of research processes and outputs for them.

Suzanne previously worked with Forestry Commission Scotland’s Central Scotland Conservancy as a development officer. In this role she worked with regional stakeholders to promote the benefits of forestry and to link woodlands into sustainable rural development and urban regeneration policies and projects. She also previously worked as a social science project leader in Forest Research’s Social and Economic Research Group where she developed guidance on the role of woodlands in the tourism sector, disabled accessibility of woodlands, and the harvesting of non-timber forest products. Suzanne has a doctorate from the University of Aberdeen, which considered the sustainability of rural development and transport policies.

Suzanne is looking forward to working with Forest Research stakeholders and staff. She is based at Alice Holt in Surrey and can be contacted by telephone on 01420 526 188 or by email at suzanne.martin@forestry.gsi.gov.uk.
