What was the event?

Professor Phil Comeau (Professor of Silviculture and Stand Dynamics, University of Alberta, Canada), has received funding from the Scottish Forestry Trust for a sabbatical visit to Scotland.

The aim of his visit was to examine the potential application of the Stand Density Index (based on stocking and basal area) as a tool to estimate light availability to understorey regeneration in the transformation of Sitka spruce and Douglas-fir stands to continuous cover forestry (CCF) in Britain.

In this seminar, Phil described the application of shelterwood and selection systems in Douglas-fir stands in the interior of British Columbia, Canada.
