Plant Analysis

Our top performing plant analysis service Europe offers a suite of tests to determine the chemical composition of soft and woody plant material including bark, leaves, foliage and roots.

Service overview

We provide a comprehensive suite of inorganic chemical analyses and tests for all types of tree and other plant material: bark, leaves, foliage and roots. These tests can provide important data on nutrient deficiency, de-icing salt damage, plant and land contamination and phytoremediation.

We ranked first out of 59 European labs which took part recently in the Plant Proficiency Scheme for the International Co-operative Programme on Assessment and Monitoring of Air Pollution Effects on Forests.

Our plant analysis laboratory has supported forestry-related research projects for more than 40 years. We have acquired significant expertise in testing a wide range of materials, developing protocols and advising on experimental design. Unlike many commercial plant analysis laboratories and testing centres, we always run calibrated controls with reference material so your data is suitable for detailed research analysis and publication.

Standard tests:

  • Moisture content
  • Total carbon (C) and nitrogen (N)
  • Major cations (Al, Ca, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, P, S, Zn)
  • Trace metals (B, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Na, Ni, Pb)
  • Water extractable chloride (Cl)

We also offer a wide range of specialist tests and can provide advice on experimental design and testing protocols. With our foliage analysis package we can also recommend a bespoke fertilizer prescription to improve plant nutrition.

Our clients include research organisations and university research groups from across Europe as well as environmental consultants, forestry contractors and private woodland owners.
