Forest Management Division

This science division leads and develops the silviculture, timber quality, remote sensing and conifer breeding research within Forest Research.

The work of the division encompasses silvicultural research covering silvicultural systems (continuous cover forestry, low-impact silviculture etc.), establishment systems, seed and seedling biology (tree seed testing), timber quality and selection & breeding of conifers.

Technical development work (evaluating and developing forestry methods and machinery) is also performed for Forestry Commission and UK forest industry.
