Silviculture research - Seeds and plants

More than 95% of woodland trees are raised from seed in nurseries, but current research is also evaluating techniques of natural regeneration and direct seeding in the forest.

In all cases, it is important to understand the biology of seeds so that maximum germination will occur evenly and at the right time.

Seed research

Aims to reduce nursery costs and raise plant quality, and to improve the success of direct seeding and natural regeneration:

  • Improving seed quality and performance
  • Discovering more effective seed pre-treatments.
