Woodland expansion workshop
Led by Forest Research and the James Hutton Institute
The Scottish Government aspiration is for 25% woodland cover by 2050, through the planting of 10,000 ha per year. However, woodland creation is not progressing at a rate to achieve these ambitions for a variety of reasons.
This workshop will first present the history of woodland cover in Scotland before exploring some of the drivers barriers, and opportunities of woodland expansion. Real world case studies will be presented alongside tools to address some of these issues and aid discussion around what is currently being done, where future work should focus and what lessons have been learnt to date.
