Anna Harris graduated from Imperial College, London with a BSc in Biology in 2007 followed by an MSc in Integrated Pest Management in 2008. Anna worked as a project scientist at CABI, researching biocontrol of invasive weeds and the economic costs of invasive non-native weeds to Great Britain. In 2010 she joined the Tree Health section of Forest Research to study for a PhD entitled ‘The epidemiology of Phytophthora ramorum on Larix in the UK’ in conjunction with Imperial College, London and under the supervision of Dr Joan Webber. Anna was awarded her PhD in 2015. Since 2014 Anna has been working as a Phytophthora diagnostician and research scientist at Forest Research.

Current role

Provide a diagnostic service for quarantine and other Phytophthora pathogens to support GB surveillance by the Forestry Commission and Natural Resources Wales of Phytophthora ramorum and other regulated Phytophthoras affecting trees in forests and woodlands.

Conduct research into the epidemiology of regulated Phytophthoras in British forests

Research into variation and genotyping of P. ramorum in Britain

Mapping the distribution of Phytophthora in British parks, gardens, woodlands and forests

Investigating the global threats from Phytophthora spp. (PHYTO-THREATS)
