Summary

This programme explores systems in use and identifies best practice to promote the sustainable application of low impact silviculture, supporting the UKWAS objective of favouring lower impact silvicultural systems where they are suited to site and species.

It also investigates best practice for managing open space, fire, Rhododendron and water.

Research objectives

The main research objectives are to:

  • Identify and assess low impact silvicultural systems
  • Develop and promote best practice guidance
  • Provide advice and support relating to open space, fire,  Rhododendron and water management.

Forestry Commission policy
