Tony Hutchings heads Land Regeneration and Urban Greenspace at Forest Research. He has a Masters degree in Soils and Environmental Pollution from the University of Reading and has 18 years research experience. After five years of research on the effects of transboundary air pollution on forest soils and tree health he moved his research focus onto reclaiming contaminated and brownfield land. In 2010 the Group widened its research focus to determine the impacts of climate change on urban greenspace, and the ecosystem services which urban trees and woodlands and wider green infrastructure provides.

Current role

Programme Group Manager, Head of the Land Regeneration and Urban Greening Group and represents Forest Research externally, at both a national and international level.

Overall, the role of the Head of the Land Regeneration and Urban Greening Group is to ensure an integrated research and development approach is adopted across Forest Research’s land regeneration and urban greening remit and that organisational objectives are achieved with regard to winning new grants/contracts, working in partnership with other organisations and ensuring standards of innovation and scientific excellence.
