Ian obtained a BSc (Honours) in forestry from the University of Wales at Bangor in 1991, and an AMBA accredited Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Open University in 1999. He joined the Forestry Commission in 1991 as a District Forester, has worked for Forest Research since 1992, as well spending time in roles in various other parts of the Forestry Commission.
