Background
The EU Forest Reproductive Materials Directive (1999/105) was established in 1999, to help ensure that forest reproductive material supplied for any site within the EU is suitable for that site’s geographic location. Each Member State holds a national register to control the material which may be marketed. An EU list is drawn up on the basis of the national lists, to ensure the scheme operates smoothly across the whole of the EU.
Forest Research involvement
Forest Research was the Forestry Commission's Official Tree Seed Testing Station for Britain. The service is now closed.
