Quinquennial Review stakeholder views - Research establishments

Responses received

  • Macaulay Institute
  • Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA).

Summary

The general tone of the comments was that their contact with Forest Research was helpful and valuable.

Portfolio

TRADA considered that the Forest Research portfolio was too much at the "forest" end of the supply chain and too little on the "utilisation" end - particularly in view of the forecast increase in timber production.

Joint research

Macaulay Institute would like to collaborate more closely but few of their joint research proposals had won funding and they speculated that having different major funding sponsors made it more difficult to develop joint research proposals and that that might be easier if Forest Research were distanced from government.
