High Lodge Harvesting Programme 2016/17

As part of the working forest cycle, we will be carrying out planned thinning and clearfell operations in various areas within the High Lodge block. See the harvesting programme schedule and the harvesting areas map for further details.

These thinning and clear fell operations are important because they:-

  • Provide room for the remaining trees to grow.
  • Improve drainage in consistently wet areas on cycle trails which often struggle to dry out due to lack of sunlight.
  • Provide timber for a variety of wood products used in everyday life such as furniture and paper.
  • Are an important income source for the Forestry Commission supporting conservation and recreation work in forests such as this one.
  • Create new habitat for species that require 'dead wood' and open areas

Felling operations can be dangerous as they are carried out using machinery such as harvesters and forwarders. Large falling trees are also hazardous so it is essential you always obey safety signage.
