Walk4Life is part of the Change4Life movement that has been set up to encourage families and adults to eat well, move more and live longer, by making small lifestyle changes that add up to big health benefits.
Walk4Life is all about helping people move and walking is a great way to start. It's a feel-good exercise that is also good for the environment.
This Walk4Life route is 1 mile. The route is marked with distinctive yellow waymarkers on the Easy Access Trail and takes you through a variety of woodland.
We recommend you walk this first section of the Easy Access Trail at a slow pace just to get your body warmed up.
Once you reach the start post at the crossroad further down this path, increase your pace to a ‘brisk’ walk.
The walk is a circular route and you will finish back at the crossroad where you started.
This Walk4Life Mile is also a Fitness Test Route.
Using the Walk4Life website you can register your details and use a Fitness Test Route to track your progress.
To do a fitness test you need walk the mile as fast as you comfortably can.
At the end of the mile, immediately take your pulse, and record how long you took.
Measure your pulse for 10 seconds, then multiply it by 6 to get beats per minute.
Then go back to the website and select to complete the walk you have just done. You will then be given a fitness score. The website records your scores and turns them into a graph so you can see how your are progressing.
The Walk4Life Miles project is supported by the Department of Health, and is delivered by Walk England. The walk here at Alice Holt Forest is run in partnership with the Forestry Commission.
