In 2012, visitors watched as three expert carvers created big pieces that later became part of Westonbirt’s new natural play trail in Silk Wood.
We will announce plans for 2013 closer to the event, but in the meantime, here's what was created last year...
Knock on wood
Carver: David Lucas
People have been knocking on wood for luck for centuries (woodpeckers have been doing it for even longer). This musical sculpture explores a variety of good luck charms and the possible ancient origins of the saying – when people knocked on trees to let the wood spirits know they were entering their domain.

What time is it Mr. Wolf?
Carver: Simon Hedger
Based on the popular children’s game, this ornate chair will be positioned in the Cherry Collection, where the long grass and open space is perfect for creeping, seeking and surprising family and friends.
Carver Simon Hedger said: "I'm looking forward to carving a storytelling chair… like all commissions, large or small, until you actually cut into the wood you can never really tell how it will relate to the original design. It's always good to have an idea but you have to wait and see what is waiting to be revealed in the trunk."

Nature’s treasures
Carver: Dai Edward
Nature is full of treasures waiting to be discovered. This sculpture is inspired by Van Gogh’s observation that "if you love nature, you will find beauty everywhere."
Designed as a fallen acorn, the sculpture will be positioned under a mature oak on The Link. Come and relax, watch nature’s marvels or leave your own natural treasures for others to enjoy.
The acorn cup acts as a seat. A tiny oak sapling planted in the tip of the acorn may one day be a mighty oak and the mighty acorn, tiny in comparison.
