We offer a wide range of ranger-led programmes in a unique mountain forest environment. Our ranger-led sessions are curriculum linked for all key stages.
For ranger-led bookings please contact Classrooms in the Forest - firstname.lastname@example.org or call 015396 24364.
In addition to primary and secondary education we are able to offer activities for higher education groups including A-level and University students. We can offer a range of topics including Tourism, Recreation, Ecology and Forestry. Please contact Nathan Fox for more information.
During the visit we will be using relevant aspects of “assessment for learning” (AFL) to enable learners to contribute to the objectives for each session, say what they hope to achieve and demonstrate new skills and understanding. We aim to ensure that learners of all abilities have abundant opportunities to make very good personal progress.
Our use of AFL methodologies include:
- Sharing learning objectives
- Inclusive questioning
- Self and peer group assessment
- Groupwork activities
- Pupil involvement in plenary sessions
- Opportunities to demonstrate new learning and to talk about their progress and achievement
- Offering suggestions for what went well and what could be improved
- Saying whether their learning was enjoyable and safe
- Discussing how the visit might lead to further learning
Ewes and Views is a partnership with the YHA and their hostels at Derwent Water and Borrowdale. Explore England’s only mountain forest to learn more about it’s inhabitants and visit a traditional Lakelend hill farm to meet the farmer and his woolly friends .
Self led visits
There are a wide variety of self led visits in the forest including orienteering trails, playground and numerous waymarked trails. These could be used to complement your ranger led session, or for a stand alone visit. All self-led parties should complete a self led visit form that we are aware of your presence in the forest and can contact your group in case of planned work in the forest that may affect your visit, and in case of emergency on the day of your visit.
Please contact Visitor Information if you would like help planning a self-led visit.
Please send your completed self-led form to Visitor Information.
