Salcey Forest Events

There are a number of exciting events and activities that occur in Salcey Forest throughout the year.

Running your own event

If you wish to organise an event yourself in Salcey Forest, please contact us. Please visit our Organising an Event or Activity page to find out more.

A minimum of 8 weeks advance notice is required prior to your intended event date but the longer the better to ensure good planning and to accommodate changes.

For Families and Children

Families can join in the fun at Salcey Forest with our on site learning partner who offers a wide range of activities for children and families.

Salcey Saturdays                                                                              10-noon on the second Saturday of each month - 14th January, 11th February and 11th March                                                             £7.50 per child and all children must be accompanied

Join us for a Saturday morning exploring the woodlands - something to fill you and your children with awe, wonder, enthusiasm and excitement!
Aimed at children aged 4 years upwards. We meet in all weathers.

The session will focus on an aspect of ecology or natural history, which we will explore using guided activities, games and crafts. Children can choose what they want to find out about and will get a chance to know more about Salcey Forest.

Tinder Tots                                                                                     10-noon on the third Friday of each month - 20th January, 17th February and 17th March
For pre school children                                                                        £5 to £7.50 per child

Join us for a morning of fun, mud and adventure in Salcey Forest. The sessions are based around play, stories, mud, crafts, mud, singing and more! Talk a short walk, swing in hammocks, enjoy natural crafts, games, free-range play and even campfire cooking.

Sessions are led by experienced Forest School leaders and will go ahead in all weathers – if necessary we will have group shelters with activities that we can do underneath them. We aim to provide time and space for both you and your children to interact with the natural world and enjoy the slow and steady pace of the world around us. The group is child-led, although ideas and activities are provided.

Kindling Kids                                                                               1pm-3pm on the third Friday of each month - 20th January, 17th February and 17th March                                                                   For ages 4 upwards, £5 to £7.50 per child

These are child-led sessions that aim to develop self esteem and self confidence by spending time in the natural environment. They are based on the ethos of Forest Schools.
Activities include den building, natural crafts, using tools, minibeast hunting, fire lighting, cooking and more. Activities will take place in any weather - so come prepared.

Led by fully qualified and experienced Forest School leaders, we aim to provide a positive environment with lots of encouragement, where children can take responsibility for their decisions; promoting inclusivity, creativity, self-belief and kindness.

Elemental Events                                                                        10am-12pm 16th February                                                                                                 For ages 3 upwards – children must be accompanied. Maximum of 15 children. £5 per child and £1.50 per adult - children must be accompanied

Come along to explore the 4 "elements" - earth, air, fire and water and enjoy some family forest fun during the school holidays! Sessions are based on the Forest School ethos of child-led free play and discovery, although ideas and activities are provided.

Join us in February half term to explore the element of air - and the creatures who live there. Make bird feeders, bird homes and more.

Forest Fuel - tasks for teens in the Forest                                         2pm-4pm on the second Saturday of each month - 11th March, 8th April and 13th May

A monthly forest session for young people aged 11-16 years, taking place in Salcey Forest on the second Saturday of the month. Like all our forest sessions these will include a mix of games, woodland activities and crafts, but tailored to young people with more skilled and adventurous stuff, like tool work and campfire cooking. Lead by qualified forest school practitioners, young people will enjoy the freedom and adventure of a wild day in the woods.

Woodland Wondering                                                                 10am-12pm on the third Thursday of each month - 16th March, 20th April and 18th May                                                                           For ages 11 to 16

Mindful walking offers the chance to immerse yourself in the natural world. The walks will introduce you to the natural beauty of the local surrounding and give you an opportunity to slip into a slower gear and appreciate the outdoors.

Mindfulness practice will increase your awareness and bring appreciation to walking and to the landscape. You will be led and introduced to ways of developing a mindfulness practice that can be integrated in to your daily life.

These walks are suitable for most adults aged 18 and above who want to experience the simple structure of an esacpe from everyday life and enjoy walking.

Regular meditation and mindfulness can be helpful in managing stress, depression and anxiety, although these may not be suitable if you are experiencing major depression or other psychiatric illness.
