Whole Body Vibration

In the Forestry Commission many people use machinery and plant, such as:

  • harvesting machines
  • silvicultural machines
  • civil engineering machines
  • other machines that work ‘off-road’

Forestry Commission staff using any of these machines may be exposed to the risk of whole body vibration (WBV). Exposure to high levels of WBV can cause and aggravate back, neck and shoulder pain.

This booklet sets out the Forestry Commission’s policy on managing WBV and provides guidance for managing staff working with and operating machines.
