Waste Management

All commercial and industrial waste is covered by legislation even if it is not classed as Hazardous Waste (England & Wales) or Special Waste (Scotland).

The aim of the legislation is to make sure that waste is recovered or disposed of without endangering human health, and without using processes or methods which could harm the environment and, in particular without:

  • risk to water, air, soil, plants and animals
  • causing a nuisance through noise or smell
  • having an adverse affect on the countryside or places of special interest

The aim of this booklet is to help Forestry Commission staff understand:

  • their responsibilities
  • the law on waste
  • the procedures for monitoring waste
  • how to record and report tipping
