In 2007, The Forestry Commission lead a Cumbrian based project which aimed to deliver a working example of its Woodfuel Strategy for England.
Cumbria Woodlands delivered the project which involved a partnership between Cumbria Vision, Friends of the Lake District, LDNPA and Bassenthwaite Reflections. The project aimed to direct support to developing supply chain businesses as well as providing impartial guidance to those who were contemplating using wood as a renewable source of energy, and was seen as a working example of the Forestry Commissions' Woodfuel Strategy for England (4Mb PDF). This project is still ongoing in Cumbria. Please contact Cumbria Woodlands for further advice and support.
Langdale and Low Sizergh
Two case studies Langdale, and Low Sizergh received support from this project to install woodfuel systems. Johnby Bank is an example of a log fired boiler. Capernwray Hall in Lancashire is also one of the regions finest examples of a modern woodchip boiler.
The Morecambe Bay Woodfuel and Wildlife feasibility study examines ways of stimulating woodland management in the Morcambe Bay area in order to benefit wilflife and bio diversity targets.
