Welcome to Basing Wood!
Basing Wood is predominantly conifer forest located on the northern edge of Basingstoke between Chineham and Popley easily accessible off the A33. The Woodland covers 107 hectares (264 acres), has a number of significant ponds and consists primarily of Scots Pine trees. These are most commonly used to make fencing panels, pallets and in some types of building construction. There are also areas of Oak, Ash and Birch.
The Wood is full of interesting wildlife including a healthy population of the protected Greater Crested Newt.
It also provides an important habitat for butterflies in particular the declining Purple Emperor. Some of the more common wildlife you may see in the Wood includes fallow, roe and muntjac deer, foxes, rabbits and many species of birds.

Basing Wood Volunteer Days
Would you like to improve Basing Wood to benefit it's wildlife, trees and the local community, and get fitter at the same time?
Volunteering days offer a number of tasks for people to try; these might include activities such as;
- tree planting
- scrub clearance
- coppicing
- vegetation management and
- specific habitat enhancement
It's a great way to exercise outdoors, meet people with similar interests and help take care of the woodland.
We can also arrange volunteering days for groups of friends, family or colleagues. Spending a day outside and doing something different really allows you discover more about people. It's a great team building event!
