Following an extensive consultation the Welsh Assembly Government’s (WAG's) TAN 8 identified 7 areas in Wales which they termed Strategic Search Areas (SSAs). These SSAs showed developers and planning authorities where WAG considered there to be sufficient unconstrained land available to deliver its onshore wind energy targets through the construction of large-scale wind farm developments.
