Species action notes

The notes below summarise the action being undertaken by Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS), either by ourselves or in partnership with others, to help conserve these species in Scotland, both in private woodlands and on the national forest estate.

These are three of the six key woodland species for action under the Scottish Forestry Strategy.

Capercaillie

Black Grouse

Red Squirrel

Notes for three further species - pearl-bordered fritillary, the chequered skipper butterfly, and juniper - will be added in early 2009.

Action for these species is part of a much wider FCS programme which is described in the Woods for Nature - biodiversity programme 2008 - 2011 publication (PDF 4.2Mb)
