The Forestry Commission has a statutory duty under the Environmental Impact Assessment (Forestry) 1999 regulations to consider forestry projects involving afforestation, deforestation or the construction of forest road and quarrys.
Where EIA (Forestry) consent is required for the forestry project the applicant will be asked to prepare an Environmental Statement detailing the environmental impacts that would be associated with the project. The Forestry Commission will then seek the views of interested parties, including members of the public through a 28 day consultation period.
In deciding whether or not to grant consent, the Forestry Commission will consider the information provided in the Environmental Statement and the responses received through the consultation exercise.
All interested parties will be notified of the Forestry Commissions decision.
