See spring in all its glory for half the price at Westonbirt  This spring at the Forestry Commission’s National Arboretum, Westonbirt visitors can enjoy the abundance of beautiful blooms at half the price every Wednesday. Westonbirt Wednesdays run throughout April and May and with half price admission there’s even more reason to come and see the trees and shrubs bursting back into life after a winter of dormancy. By April the magnificent magnolias and cherry blossom are in flower creating heavenly walks through clouds of pink and white petals. The rhododendrons burst into bloom by mid April with the Rhododendron williamsianun putting on a particularly good show with its unusual heart shaped leaves and pink bell shaped flowers in early May. The carpets of wild flowers in Silk Wood and on The Downs - early purple orchids, primroses, red campion, bluebells, celandines and wood anemone – draw visitors off the beaten track. Head of Collections Hugh Angus said ‘Throughout May I feel that Westonbirt is one of the best plant collections in the world for its sheer abundance of flowering plants.
