Woodlands for Learning at Whinlatter
 

Whinlatter Visitor Centre Osprey exhibition. North West England FDAt Whinlatter we can offer a range of exciting curriculum linked activities for all key stages based within Englands only  mountain forest.

Situated 1000ft above sea level Whinlatter offers a unique mountain learning experience.The classroom is within an hours travel by coach of much of the Lake District National Park, Ambleside, Kendal, Windermere, Penrith and Carlisle and within half and hour of Workington and Whitehaven.

In addition to providing a full range of Ranger led activities within the Forest Park the education service in partnership with the Youth Hostel Association offer all the activities to groups staying at either of the two YHA's in the Ennerdale Valley.

Links to National Curriculum

To help teachers we have produced two  guides, Key stage 1&2 and Key stage 3&4,  which describe how we can link opportuntities for the study of trees and forests to the national curriculum. These form the basis of activities that we run with groups as part of a Ranger led visit to the forest.

Higher Education

In addition to primary and secondary education we are able to offer activities for higher educatuion groups including A-level and University students. We can offer a range of topics including Tourism, Recreation, Ecology and Forestry. Please contact Nathan Fox for more information.
