What's happening at Bedgebury
This page is designed to keep you informed about the latest plans, events, facilities and projects that may be happening at Bedgebury. It is also intended as an opportunity for you to contact us with your thoughts, ideas, reactions and concerns. We are keen to make Bedgebury the best visitor attraction in South East England, At the same time, it is vitally important to protect the forest's integrity as a natural environment. Conservation is therefore a priority, highlighted by the valuable work undertaken by our curatorial team in the National Pinetum. This page will be updated regularly. If you would like to have your say, please email us on bedgebury@forestry.gsi.gov.uk Bedgebury Site News 2008IMPROVEMENTS TO THE INFRASTRUCTURE (May) The new bike shop is now open. The enlarged Pantry will open by the end of June. The container for the woodfuel heating system has now arrived and will be connected shortly. Most of the singletrack repair work is now complete. SINGLETRACK (May) Essential maintenance work is taking place on the Single Track Cycle Loop over the next 4 weeks. This work will involve various sections of the trail. Please observe all safety signage and follow any trail diversions. We apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause. CAR PARKING - price rise (April) Parking/admission charges have risen from 1st April 2008 to £7.50 per car, £20 per minibus and £40 per coach (with concessions available). While we are keen to remain excellent value, the costs of running Bedgebury are considerable, especially now it offers so much more to the visitor. All revenue is ploughed back into maintaining and improving the facilities. In comparison with other local visitor attractions, our prices are still very competitive and, for a party including two adults, are less expensive than they were in 2005 (before we opened up the new activities in the forest). For anyone visiting more than five times a year, our Friends membership at £40 (or £3.30 a month) is the most efficient way of paying. COPPICING (April) Coppicing is currently being carried out at Bedgebury as part of the regular work required for sustainable and correct forest management. It is taking part in a very small part of the forest and should be completed - weather permitting - within two weeks. The area affected does not prevent access to the forest and the harvested wood will be used to feed our eco-friendly heating system. Please take care around any areas where there are Forest Operations signs. BUILDING WORKS (April - June) As part of continuing improvements at Bedgebury, we are currently building a new cycle shop. This will benefit all our visitors by reducing congestion around the Visitor Centre and creating space for a larger Pantry. Construction work will be taking place until mid June. Please take care near the site and follow the new traffic system.
