The Forestry Commission in the West Midlands tries to offer quality woodland access to the widest range of visitors as possible. Therefore we try not to install stiles, gates, squeeze gaps and steps on our trails unless absolutely necessary for e.g. to contain livestock or deal with exceptionally steep slopes. If you have a particular access need or question regarding access to any of our woodlands please contact Georgina Sharp for more information.

Several of our woodlands have easy access trails. You can expect these trails to be surfaced, level and have frequent benches.

Haughmond Hill (Shrewsbury)

Vinnalls (Ludlow)

Wyre Forest (Bewdley)

Other facilities which may meet your needs are;

Birches Valley Forest Centre, has blue badge parking spaces (free), and accessible toilet and café facilities. The Route to Health trail is not specifically surfaced for wheel chairs, but many users find it accessible especially in dry weather. It is a level route with frequent rest stops.Lower viewpoint at Bury Ditches Iron Age Hill Fort. The Marches. West Midlands FD

The climb up to Bury Ditches is steep with a gate at the top. However if visitors would like an excellent view without the climb, pass the forest barrier in the car park and follow the forest road. There are two benches looking out onto excellent views. Bury Ditches has a model of the hillfort in relief with information in braille and accessible picnic tables next to the car park.

Black Pool car park in Mortimer Forest has accessible picnic tables close to blue badge parking.
