Woodfuel Statistics

A range of statistics on woodfuel are provided in our annual Forestry Statistics publication.

Figures on UK woodfuel use are also provided in our biennial Joint Wood Energy Enquiry returns to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

Woodfuel Demand and Usage in Scotland provides annual data on existing and potential woodfuel usage in the commercial, industrial and electrical energy sectors in Scotland.

A survey of woodfuel suppliers was run for the first time in Spring 2009 to collect data on woodfuel supplied (including own use by suppliers).  Initial results from the survey, augmented by estimates from other sources, are published in Woodfuel Statistics (2008 provisional figures). Final results are available in Forestry Statistics 2009.

A household survey to assess the level of domestic usage of woodfuel was carried out in GB in 1997. Since then, a similar survey was carried out in Scotland and questions on woodfuel usage have been included in the 2007 Public Opinion of Forestry.
