Aims

To provide a course and appropriate maps for an orienteering experience in a forest landscape.

Objectives related to the National Curriculum

  • To provide the environment to take part in adventurous activities in an unfamiliar environment.
  • To provide a basic introduction to orienteering techniques when requested.

Programme outline

There is a large permanent orienteering course based at our High Lodge Forest Centre. Maps of the orienteering course are available which include suggested routes of varying distances. Compasses are not supplied and compass skills are not necessary to use the course. Maps can be purchased from the High Lodge Forest Centre shop at a cost of £1.50 each.

Groups wishing to use the orienteering course are asked to book in advance by telephoning 01842 816031, as forestry operations may prevent some parts of the course being available for public use at certain times. If a large number of maps are required then these must be pre-booked in advance by telephoning 01842 816031.
