Forest Footsteps
Recommended for key stage 2 & 3 (age 7-12)Aims To look at some of the different habitats that make up the forest mosaic around High Lodge. Objectives related to the National Curriculum- To use the senses of sight, hearing, touch and smell.
- To learn that there are different kinds of plants and animals in the forest.
- To learn that nearly all food chains begin with a green plant.
- To learn that plant growth is affected by the availability of light, water and nutrients.
- To learn how to treat living things and the environment with care and sensitivity.
- To learn that there are different kinds of animals in the local environment.
Programme outline The trail is designed to introduce the children to the forest and it’s different habitats. Using observation and the workbook provided the children learn about what habitats are, how animals interact with their habitats and why some habitats are better than others are. Should you wish to, the pack is designed to allow you to expand on any of the topics as you go along. We provide an accompanying teacher pack to show you how to use the children’s workbook and give the answers. A pre-site visit to High Lodge is essential.
