Forestry Commission Retirement Association (North Wales)

The North Wales "Forestry Commission Retirement Association" (FCA) was formed in 1999, currently has about 90 members and forms part of a UK wide network. Please look at the contacts page to see your local contacts throughout the UK. All retired (as well as those nearing retirement), Forestry Commission employees, whatever job you carried out, are very welcome to join the FCA and all are treated as equal. There is basically only one aim and that is to enjoy life: to that end the FCA is there to help you. We organise a number of field visits each year to interesting venues within the North Wales area and our visits are well attended. Last year (2007), we visited Coed y Brenin near Dolgellau, the Electric Mountain at Llanberis and Erddig Hall near Wrexham. We always have a good attendance (which can be about 30) and are well looked after by our hosts. We usually meet about mid day for a picnic lunch and to start the social part of the day, finishing by about 5:00pm. In addition we have a Christmas Lunch, which in 2007 was held at Bala in early December and attended by nearly 60 members and friends. There is a brief report with photographs on the events page.
The emphasis is on being sociable and the afternoons do seem to be filled with chatter, laughter and the occasional mild banter!
Any retired person and partner may become life members for £20 or pay an annual subscription of £3 (2008). Partners and family are also welcome to join in and sometimes act as drivers. We have established a vibrant Management Committee who meets on a regular basis. The Committee would be available to help, if requested, if a member has suffered a welfare problem. The FC is currently giving the group good administrative support and assists in keeping the running costs under control – this is of course much appreciated. Do not hesitate to contact us to find out more information.
