To provide a course that will help introduce the basic concepts of orienteering.

Objectives related to the National Curriculum

• To provide the environment to take part in adventurous activities in an unfamiliar environment.
• To provide a basic introduction to orienteering techniques when requested.

Programme outline

The Squirrel Scamper is a permanent introductory orienteering course aimed to introduce the basic skills of following a map and finding markers. Squirrel Scamper packs are available to purchase from High Lodge Forest Centre Shop at £1.50 each. The pack includes a user friendly map, worksheets, a crayon and a sticker in a sealed waterproof bag.

The course will take approximately 40 minutes to 1 hour to complete at walking pace.
