School and group visits

Children involved in activities on a ranger led walk in the forestCalling all teachers: do you want to do something different with your class? Why not get outside of the classroom and learn in the forest.

Our Education Service is based at two main sites in the East of England region -

  • High Lodge Forest Centre (off the B1107 nr Brandon, Suffolk).
  • Rendlesham Forest Centre (4 miles from Woodbridge on the Orford road, B1084).

The education service we provide gives the opportunity to learn within a forest environment. The Recreation team aims to offer a service that meets national curriculum, environmental and outdoor education principles.

  • Group visits to the forest can be ranger-led or self-led.
  • It is essential that all visits are booked in advance, even self-led.
  • Remember that the forest is a working forest and certain areas may be subject to restrictions at times.
  • It is essential that the team are aware of groups using the forest - the location and activities involved.

Full details of educational ranger-led programmes on offer, the costs and how to book can be found for High Lodge

  • on the Forestry Commission website www.forestry.gov.uk/highlodge
  • or by e-mailing: e.anglia.fdo@forestry.gsi.gov.uk
  • or by telephoning the education/recreation answerphone on 01842 816031. We aim to respond to all calls as soon as possible and ask that you leave the following information: teacher name, school name, phone number and times that you will be available.
