Industry, grants and licences

The Forestry Commission offers a one stop shop for all things to do with trees and woodlands.

Trail in Rainsbarrow woodWe offer a range of grants to support the creation and management of woodlands. We offer grants for regeneration, improvement, management and creation works.  If you are thinking of felling trees or carrying out any other operations in your woodland we can help you assess whether you  need a licence to fell and/or advice regarding European Protected Species.

Our helpful and knowledgeable staff are involved in pushing forward many different projects and initiatives to deliver the Governments strategy for England's Trees, Woodlands and Forest. We are working with the North West Development Agency, Natural England and Defra to ensure that woodlands are incoporated in all areas of policy. From developing markets for woodfuel to supporting small woodland owners we cover the whole of North West England with our main office near Keswick in North Cumbria.
